THE GOSPEL

Open Luke 13:18–21 in the Bible Reader.

Jesus compares the kingdom of God to a mustard seed that grows into a tree where birds can make their nests, and to yeast that works through a whole batch of dough. Through these ordinary things, he shows how God's kingdom can begin in small, almost unnoticed ways and grow until its influence reaches far beyond its beginnings.

UNDERSTAND

Jesus reminds us that God's work doesn't always begin with something impressive or immediately visible. Like a tiny seed or a little yeast, his love can work quietly within us and through our everyday lives, bringing growth and change over time.

We may sometimes underestimate what a small act of kindness, a moment of prayer or a simple decision to follow Jesus can accomplish. Yet we don't always see where these beginnings will lead. We are invited to trust God's work, even when its growth is hidden from view.

Jesus, help us trust the quiet work of your kingdom in our lives. Teach us not to underestimate the small acts of love, kindness and faith that we can offer today. May we remain open to your presence, allowing your love to grow within us and reach others through us. Amen.
